Finding the right DJ for your wedding

If it sounds to good to be true.

One of the very first questions we often get when people contact us regarding their event is, how much? For example, how much would it cost for your [Service Name] for my wedding?

And why wouldn't it be? After all, it's a fair question. I'm sure they want to check to see if our services fit the overall budget they have set aside for their professional entertainment.

However, if that's the ONLY question you're asking vendors when calling around for their services, then you may want to consider revising your approach just a bit. Because as the old saying goes, if something sounds too good to be true, say it with me now, it's because it probably is!

Professionalism vs Inexperience

Over the past ten years, Art Of Sound has had the honor of working with numerous different types of vendors in our area.

Most have been extremely professional and a delight to work with while a few others though extremely knowledgeable, put off an unapproachable aura and made rude comments about their clients.

Then you have the ones that looked utterly clueless as to what they were doing. You could tell that they were very inexperienced and haven't yet mastered their craft.

That is why some vendors, including ourselves, like to hand a referral list to their clients. Because everyone loves an experienced team player, that's a delight to work with!

Price vs. Quality

Did you know that a large percentage of the big-name wedding blogs shared all over the internet are written by interns sitting in a cubicle? Most of which are not even in the line of work that they are handing out advice about! Scary huh?

That's why it is important to ask the right questions to ensure that you and your potential wedding vendors are a good fit for one another. And most importantly to find out if they offer what you're looking for!

When calling around, you may get a variety of price quotes from different companies that may range anywhere from $500 to $2,500 and up. The various ranges in pricing that you'll receive are going to vary based on a few different factors which may include:

  • 1. How new they are to the industry; inexperience = low cost
  • 2. How much they have invested in their training and equipment
  • 3. How much they are willing to help you with pre-planning
  • 4. If they have overhead cost for an office building or storage unit

And lastly, how much effort they have put into building an all-around music library that caters specifically to weddings. Which we in the industry call, you may have guessed it, the wedding DJ.

Professionalism vs Inexperience

And the list goes on and on right down to the final announcement for the evening or the last song being played.
